An RO water purifier is a significant investment in your family's health. Like a car, it requires a mix of good daily habits and regular professional servicing to run efficiently. Daily & Weekly Habits
1. Keep the Exterior Clean
Your kitchen can be a greasy, dusty environment. Regularly wipe down the exterior of the purifier with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbers on the plastic body. Keeping the exterior clean prevents dirt from settling near the dispensing tap, which can contaminate your glass of water.
2. Monitor the Dispensing Tap
The dispensing tap is a high-touch area. Ensure that unwashed hands or dirty utensils do not touch the spout directly. Every week, gently clean the tip of the dispenser to prevent bacterial buildup.
3. Ensure Uninterrupted Water Supply
RO purifiers require a steady input pressure to function. If your overhead tank runs empty, turn off the purifier immediately. Running the purifier without an adequate water supply can cause the booster pump to overheat and burn out, leading to an expensive repair.
Monthly Checks
1. Inspect the Pre-Filter
Make it a habit to look at the transparent pre-filter housing once a month. If the white spun filter inside has turned dark brown or black, it's heavily loaded with mud and needs to be replaced. Delaying this will force dirt into the internal filters.
2. Check for Leaks
Inspect the pipes and connections leading to and from the purifier. Even a minor drip can escalate into a major leak, damaging your kitchen cabinets and reducing the pressure needed for the RO membrane to function properly. If you spot a leak, call a technician to tighten or replace the fittings.

1. Complete Filter Replacement
No matter how well you maintain it externally, the internal filters (Carbon, Sediment, Post-Carbon) have a finite lifespan, usually around 12 months. Ensure you schedule a professional service to have these replaced.
2. Tank Cleaning
The storage tank where purified water sits should ideally be cleaned and sanitized annually. Over a long period, slight microbial growth can occur inside the tank. A professional technician will empty, clean, and flush the tank during an annual service.
3. System Flush and Calibration
During a professional visit, the technician will check the performance of the booster pump, ensure the UV lamp is functioning correctly, and calibrate the TDS controller to ensure the output water has the perfect balance of purity and essential minerals.
